Anthropological Study of Social Conflicts –– moral politics and historicity involved in labour, ethnic, environmental and feminist movements.

Industrial Anthropology and Anthropological Economics –– research and critique of employment ideologies and practices; alternative economic analyses on current issues; labour supply vs. employment – rethinking labour economics.

Alternative Ethnography and Historiography –– historical anthropology; history of anthropology in Taiwan; experimental ethnography; oral history; narrative enquiry into the social and the political.

Cultural Studies and Discourse Analysis –– cultural politics and rhetoric ideology analyses; the logic and practices of identity valorizations and their various possibilities; issues in signification practices and social researches; understanding alternative knowledge systems and pedagogical practices.

Political Economy of Development –– developmentalism, crises, state-ism in civil societies; alternative livelihood practices; research and critique of managerialism.

Hong Kong Studies –– historical, sociological and ideological inquiries into the social bodies of a transforming Hong Kong; Hong Kong women workers' work-histories and life-course analyses.

Socio-cultural Studies of Space and Society –– cultural politics and political economy of "planning"(kwei-hwa); rhetoric and ideology analyses of 'place/local' and 'place/local-making'.

Political Economy of Regional Development and Global Competition –– local and regional developmental state and the social formation of locality; research and critique of "absentism" and "we-have-them-all-ism".

2000-2009 學術研究暨出版進程規劃

1.) Colours of Money, Shapes of Pride：重寫92年論文（已以英文出版）。

2.) 文化政治——論詰、解構、演示：整編過去十年的文章選出約三十篇成集，演示個人文化政治實踐的各個面相。

3.) 親密的敵人／野蠻人的佛洛依德：迻譯阿席斯．南地五篇最重要的著作＋作者論／作品論，譯述並出版。

4.) Un-gaze Hong Kong: an atypical analysis：重構有關香港Body Social與Colonial Modernity已發表的論文；加上97後社會構造型變的省思。以英文專書闡明在地道德政治的歷史軌跡（12章）。

5.) 原住民社會性運動與人類學的祛殖民化：集合已發表有關原住民命名、政治處境和自救運動等論文。以中文重寫，並重新理脈化之，以闡明台灣社會史發展的社會運動脈絡，以及這個脈絡對人類學之祛殖民化進程產生的作用。（12章）

6.) 中地理論與它運用在中國的批判：重寫碩士論文中對G.W Skinner的細緻批判，對照於Sinology的後進性；說明前者與後者互為制約的反祖性和這種反祖性殖民「中國研究」的結果。

7.) 基進政治經濟學的重構與再出發：抓梳既存的基進政治經濟學文獻，重讀教學的積累，透過重新評價The Weberian Thesis並據以批判現時之種種managerial ideologies、重寫基進政治經濟學。

8.) 香港社區史的人類學尋繹----以鯉魚門為例：以深入訪談、口述史尋繹等手段進行對鯉魚門的Alternative Ethnography/Historiography研究與書寫。

9.) 原住民運動中4-5年級成員的生命史與生涯研究：重訪屏東排灣、魯凱兩族回歸部落重建的老朋友，以其生命史與生涯故事重構這一代人的「心理社會史」。

10.) 邵族的土地經濟與文化復振：從邵族土地淪喪的歷史經驗，確定自日統以還行政法及其執行上的缺失，並在921震災以來查察的田野經驗上，深入考究邵族土地、自然資源等的文化復振對台灣其他族群的啟發與意義。

11.) 人類學歷史與《台灣研究》的人類學：繼續對不同種類的「台灣研究」及其政治，進行重讀與再評價。

12.) 另類知識體系的傳承與再生產---以流亡印度喇嘛教仁波切養成與持繼為例：從幾位仁波切的繼替與養成，考察喇嘛教作為另類知識體系的傳承與再生產。

13.) 殖民主義與/後殖民主義在地中介勢力(Muchachos)之研究： 進一步發展我在祛殖民研究中發展而來的"宰辦"（Muchachos）論詰與人類學的袪殖民化，並以「垂直分裂」的人格型理述拒絕為之者的生命歷程。

14.) 原始經濟與原住民狩獵文化：台灣原住民的原始經濟邏輯和狩獵文化與生計，在市場化與資本主義中並未全然消失；我將深入調查探究台灣原住民的生計與狩獵，在當代社會中的經濟邏輯位置與文化意義。

15.) 台灣農村在地生業群的持繼、變貌與鳳生——社會自體防護的道德經濟學/道德政治學研究：在回顧本人早歲台灣農村田野調查的基礎上，帶著新的問題性重訪台灣農村在地生業群的生活、生長、生命實踐；並解讀在社會變動激烈的半世紀中這些生業人群之種種生存策略的社會自體防護涵意。
