Abstract A universal model of self, the Mandala model of self (MMS), was proposed to the development of indigenous psychologies in either Western, or non-Western countries. This research provides the first theoretic and empirical examination of the MMS of the role of MMS in mental health. The MMSS was developed and its psychometric properties are described.
The correlational studies show that MMSS measures socialized reflexivity with the ability of self-exerting and a variety of mental health constructs, that differentiates MMS practitioners from others. An experimental study shows that reminders of death led to enhanced meaning of life and MMSS using the scarcity heuristic paradigm, suggesting that MMSS is the important value of life. A survey study with adolescents demonstrates that MMS is related to increased resilience and mental health. Finally, a correlational study indicates that MMMS is negatively associated with substance users.
